A major threat to the European heritage of the organ is indoor atmospheric corrosion of lead and lead-tin alloys of organ pipes. The research project COLLAPSE (Corrosion of Lead and Lead-Tin Alloys of Organ Pipes in Europe) was supported by the European Commission under the Fifth Framework Programme, Key Action “The City of Tomorrow and Culture Heritage”. The project objectives were to define methods, products and conservation strategies in order to combat pipe corrosion. Field studies were performed at selected corroded and uncorroded organs in Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. The full report of the project which received wide-spread press attention from Newsweek and the BBC, among others, is now available from GOArt.
